Each cake is a blend of pure pigment, beeswax and damar resin, milled to a dense, buttery consistency with a high pigment load, so a little colour goes a long way when you melt it on the palette.

The 40ml cake is the most popular way to build an R&F palette. It is ideal for exploring a wide range of colours, for workshop and studio use, and for the more costly pigments where you only need a modest amount.

Melt the paint on a heated palette, brush it onto a rigid, absorbent support such as a gessoed or encaustic-ready panel, then fuse each layer with a heat gun or torch. Colours can be mixed with R&F Encaustic Medium for translucent glazes, built up into thick textures, scraped back or layered over collage. Prices follow R&F's series system, which reflects the cost of each pigment.

Key features

Handmade in the USA by R&F Handmade Paints

Pure pigment, beeswax and damar resin

High pigment load for intense colour and good tinting strength

40ml cake, convenient for building a broad palette

Melt on a heated palette and fuse with a heat gun or torch

Includes earths, cadmiums, cobalts and iridescent metallics

Specifications

Brand

R&F Handmade Paints

Range

R&F Encaustic Paint 40ml

Colour

Mars Yellow Light

Size

40ml

Series / weight

1

Packed dimensions

31.75 x 22.225 x 63.5 mm

Packed weight

40 g

Country of origin

USA

Product code

RF-1016
