Akua inks were developed for printmakers who want professional results without solvents. They are soy-based, non-toxic and clean up with soap and water, and they are now made by Speedball.
Akua Intaglio Ink is a highly pigmented, smooth ink that wipes cleanly from etching, drypoint and collagraph plates while holding in the lines, and also performs well for relief printing and monotype. Because it dries mainly by absorption into the paper rather than on the slab, it stays workable for a long time, giving you freedom to ink and wipe at your own pace.
The 236ml jar suits regular studio use, and Carbon Black is also available in 473ml. Colours are grouped into price series 1 to 4. Pair with Akua Transparent Base, Mag Mix and Release Agent to adjust the ink.
