KUM is a German manufacturer that has specialised in pencil sharpeners for many decades, and its sharpeners are widely used by artists, schools and offices. This range covers everything from simple single and double sharpeners to specialist designs for fine art.
Long cone sharpeners, including the Automatic AS2 and AS3 and the Meisterwerk Pro, produce a long, slender point that gives a fine tip with more exposed core, ideal for detailed graphite and coloured pencil work. The automatic models have two steps: one shaves the wood and the other points the lead. For fragile pastel pencils there are dedicated short-cone and drum sharpeners that are kinder to soft cores.
Magnesium, beech wood, recycled card and biofibre bodies offer plenty of choice, and many models have containers to catch shavings. Replacement blades are available for most KUM sharpeners.
