Paperblanks Jama Micro Hardback Journal – Plain, 160 Pages
Capture your ideas, plans and memories in this Jama micro hardback journal from Paperblanks, with 160 plain pages of 120 gsm acid-free paper.
Our Jama journal cover features a yellow shoe designed by Robert Bernabé in 1968. With the original shoe housed in Elda, Spain’s Museo del Calzado (“Shoe Museum”), we were inspired by a photograph of this fancy footwear that was displayed in the Sandy Schreier–curated 2006 Shoe Calendar.
The Story Behind the Design
Paperblanks Fabulous Footwear Jama journal features a yellow shoe designed by Roberto Bernabé in 1968. This bold platform shoe with contrast stitching is an archetypal example of the chunky, high-heeled and buckled style that was so popular during the 1960s. Designed to highlight the short skirts favoured during the period, these trendy pieces of footwear were the ultimate accessory.
We first discovered Bernabé’s creation in the 2006 edition of the bestselling “Shoe Calendar” curated by the one and only Sandy Schreier. One of the world’s foremost 20th-century couture collectors, Sandy Schreier was selected to choose the shoes featured in Linda O’Keeffe’s page-a-day calendar. As it turned out, this fashionable platform was so impossibly large that we had to rotate it in order to fit our journal cover!
If you would like to check out in person the shoe that inspired this Jama cover, be sure to visit the Museo del Calzado in Elda, Spain, where it is now on display.
