R&F Handmade Paints have been making encaustic paint in Kingston, New York, for over three decades, and their colours are among the most respected in the medium. Each cake is a blend of pure pigment, beeswax and damar resin, milled to a dense, buttery consistency with a high pigment load, so a little colour goes a long way when you melt it on the palette.
The larger 104ml cake suits painters who work at scale or return to the same colours again and again. It offers better value on your core palette and sits neatly in R&F palette cups made for this size.
Melt the paint on a heated palette, brush it onto a rigid, absorbent support such as a gessoed or encaustic-ready panel, then fuse each layer with a heat gun or torch. Colours can be mixed with R&F Encaustic Medium for translucent glazes, built up into thick textures, scraped back or layered over collage. Prices follow R&F's series system, which reflects the cost of each pigment.
