Raphaël Kolinsky Sable Round Brush, Series 8408 – Size 12

Raphaël is a French brushmaker whose history goes back to 1793, and its Kolinsky sable brushes are among the most respected watercolour brushes made. The Series 8404 round in particular is a long-standing favourite with professional watercolourists.

Kolinsky hair comes from the tail of the Siberian weasel and is prized for its fine point, spring and generous colour-carrying capacity. A well-made Kolinsky round can lay a broad wash and then return to a sharp point for detail, which is why one good brush can do so much.

Alongside the 8402, 8404 and 8408 rounds, this range includes riggers (Series 88026), lettering brushes (881 and 882), extra-long-point brushes (8826) and quills (16684). Rinse in clean water after painting, reshape the point and protect the head when travelling.
