Raphaël is a French brushmaker whose history goes back to 1793, and its sable rounds offer the qualities of natural sable hair in two practical formats.

Series 8400 is a short round, with a compact head that gives exceptional control for detail, miniature painting and botanical illustration. Series 8413 is a classic round, a versatile all-rounder that lays down washes, holds a good point and handles lines and detail.

Sable hair has natural spring and carries colour well, giving smooth, responsive strokes in watercolour and gouache. Both series run from tiny sizes for fine work to larger sizes for broader passages, so you can build a practical working set. Rinse the brushes in clean water after use, reshape the point while damp and store them so the hair is not bent.
