Raphaël Softaqua Synthetic Flat Brush, Series 915 – 1/4in

Raphaël is a French brushmaker whose history goes back to 1793, and Softaqua is its soft synthetic range for watercolour, offering an animal-free alternative to squirrel hair.

The fibres are fine and supple and hold a generous charge of water and colour, which makes Softaqua well suited to washes, wet-in-wet techniques and soft, flowing strokes. The range includes a pointed quill mop (Series 805), a mini quill mop (8056), rounds (845) and flats (915) sized in inches.

Quill mops combine a large reservoir with a point that can still describe shapes, rounds are versatile everyday brushes, and the flats are useful for laying even washes and painting crisp edges. Rinse in clean water after use and allow to dry naturally with the head reshaped.
