Raphaël is a French brushmaker whose history goes back to 1793, and Stradivarius is its range of imitation Kolinsky brushes: synthetic fibres designed to offer the point and responsiveness associated with Kolinsky sable.
The range is unusually broad. Alongside rounds (Series 8344) in sizes from 6/0 upwards and thin rounds (8348), you will find spotters (8340), sword liners (8341), angled rounds (8342), flats (8343), mops (8345), long mops (8347), liners (8346) and cat’s tongues (8349), so you can cover everything from tiny details to soft washes within one family.
Synthetic fibres are durable and easy to clean, and they suit watercolour, gouache, ink and fluid acrylic. For painters who prefer not to use animal hair, Stradivarius is an excellent place to start. Rinse after use and reshape before drying.
