Sennelier has made artists’ colours in Paris since 1887, when Gustave Sennelier opened his shop on the Quai Voltaire, across the Seine from the Louvre. The family firm supplied painters such as Cézanne and Gauguin, and its colours are still prized for their intensity and depth. Sennelier Artist Extra-Fine Oil Colour is the house’s flagship oil paint, ground with safflower oil for exceptionally rich, luminous colour.

The 500ml size is offered in the three colours painters use in the greatest quantity: Titanium White, Zinc White and Ivory Black. It is ideal for large-scale work, toning grounds and busy studios.

Safflower oil is pale and yellows less than linseed, which helps whites and light tints stay clean, and it gives the paint a soft, creamy body that blends beautifully on the canvas. The colours are graded into series by pigment cost, and every tube is labelled with its pigment information so you can plan glazes and mixes with confidence.
