Rive Gauche is Sennelier’s fine oil colour, named after the Left Bank of the Seine where the company’s Paris shop still stands. It is designed to put good, reliable oil colour within reach of students, beginners and painters who simply use a lot of paint, without the price of the extra-fine range.
The 200ml tube is made for large canvases, underpainting, teaching studios and the colours you get through fastest, such as titanium white, the earths and the blues. Buying your workhorse colours in this size keeps you painting freely without worrying about running out halfway through a piece.
Rive Gauche colours mix freely with each other and with Sennelier extra-fine oils, and can be used with the usual oil painting mediums, solvents and varnishes. Thin them with solvent for underpainting and glazes, or use them straight from the tube for confident, textured brushwork and knife work.
