Sennelier Iridescent Soft Pastel – Lemon Yellow 803

Sennelier's iridescent soft pastels bring a shimmer of light to pastel painting. The 25 shades, numbered 801 to 825, range from white, silver and golds through coppers, earths and jewel-like blues, greens and violets, each combining colour with a pearlescent sheen that catches the light as the viewing angle changes.

They share the soft, creamy handling of Sennelier's extra-fine pastels, so they sit happily alongside the standard range. Use them sparingly as highlights on water, skies, metal and fabric, or more freely in decorative and abstract work, where layering iridescent strokes over matt colour creates a striking contrast.

Because the effect depends on reflected light, iridescent pastels show best when they are applied as the final layers and given only a light veil of fixative.
